New DOE Energy Efficiency Standards

Vanguard Series

by Dongan Electric Manufacturing Company

Dongan proudly announces the launch of our new Vanguard Series which is our new DOE 2016 compliant product line. These became available in January 2016.

doe_logoThe Department of Energy (DOE) has mandated more stringent energy efficiency rating for transformers. This new standard will replace the current TP1 standard that has been in effect since 2007.

The new DOE standard went into effect on January 1, 2016. The Standard is referred to as DOE 10 CFR Part 31 in the US and C802.2 and SOR/94-651 for Canada. Any transformers made on that date or after must meet these new efficiency standards. This will affect only three phase transformers at this time as the single phase ratings remain unchanged.

The three main types of three phase transformers affected by this are:

  • General Purpose
  • K-Factor
  • Harmonic Mitigating
  • Drive Isolation (Canada only)

The exemptions to the new ratings remain as they were for TP1 and are:

  • Special Impedance Transformers
  • Auto Transformers
  • Grounding Transformers
  • Testing Transformers
  • Sealed Transformers
  • Non-Ventilated Transformers
  • Machine Tool transformers
  • Transformers with Taps of 20% or more from the lowest tap
  • Drive Isolation Transformers (USA)
  • Rectifier Transformers
  • Regulating Transformers
  • Welding Transformers

Dongan Electric Mfg Co is pleased to support higher energy efficiency standards and to do whatever we can to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a Greener environment and lifestyle.

The Vanguard will continue to offer the following standard features as you have come to expect from us:

  • Shielding is standard on all transformers
  • Noise & Vibration isolating pads for quiet operation
  • NEMA 3R enclosures as standard eliminating the need for purchasing weather shields
  • 10 year warranty
  • UL & CUL listed
  • Copper or Aluminum designs
